Grunions Sports Bar & Grill is a South Bay local landmark. It’s been a local’s favorite spot to watch any major (and even minor) sporting event while eating the best pub food around. It all started in 1974 when Grunions Sports Bar & Grill opened its doors in Manhattan Beach, CA. The mission then, as it is today, was to provide a place where people can go and enjoy great food and drinks while cheering on their favorite sports teams, in a comfortable (and family friendly) environment where everyone is treated like a regular even if it’s their first visit. A few newcomers rolled through tonight to give our regulars a run for their money, but our resident family team Plutonium pulled out the win. Victory came with a wide margin as Plutonium proved once again that the family that plays trivia together wins together.

Our bonus round featured the head to head card game of War. Flipping over a low card forced players to take a seat one by one until a single team remained to win the beer.

With the NHL playoffs beginning this week, we gave out some free beer to the team who could guess closest the total number of goals scored during this season. While most teams were a few thousand short, team When I say Trivia, You Say Fun won the prize by only being a few hundred off.

Shout out to team Plutonium who ended the two-week winning streak of the Diggle Bicks who was down to just a single player tonight, but was still able to finish in a third place. Luke will be back next week, hopefully with some backup to get his dynasty going again.

Thus begins another season of league play at Grunions. Our regular teams show up every week regardless, but nobody could deny a clean slate at making the tournament of champions added an extra spark tonight. 

We gave away a round of beer in our bonus round with a friendly game of high/low using a random number generator on my phone. Each time I hit the button for a new number as they guessed if it would be higher or lower than the previous one until team Plutonium was the only one left with a perfect record and won the beer!

The Diggle Bicks came away with a narrow victory to win the first week of league play despite the quizmaster trying to actively jinx them. That's two weeks now that my hex has failed, but we'll have to wait another week if they can make it three weeks in a row.
