The gambling bug has hit Shakertin's, at least in so far as the liberal use of the deadly Double-or-Nothing as pertains to our weekly pub quiz! The King Trivia crowd dominated the bar last night, not only numerically but with the noisy natter natural to the quiz notion! (Whew!)
Pickles on a Plate doubled in Round One and again in Round Six to lead off and finish in first place respectively. One Left in the Chamber not only suffered the worst setback of the evening but also enjoyed the finest comeback, all due to the aforementioned DoN. Two failed doubles in Rounds One & Two delayed them even getting on the board until Round Three, but two successive and successful DoN's in Rounds Five & Six propelled them sixth, to third and finally into the second place winning slot! Setback, comeback, baby's got back and back in the saddle again all in one game! Wow!
Unfortunately, Quiz Master Lou is going to have to take some heat here. A post game audit of the scores revealed that Deadly Alliance's score had been calculated incorrectly and ten extra points were erroneously added to their total. This prompted an unnecessary Tie Breaker for third place. The Nitty Knockers are the natural Third Place winners. Notifications have gone out. Restitution will be made. Current scores have been corrected. Quiz Master Lou will appear before a hearing of KTPQ Commission. Sorry 'bout that...

QUIZ RECAP
We had fun, fun, fun at Shakertin's last night! The Nitty Knockers playing under the Ship It! banner came away the clear winner in a six team field with a whopping sixty points, carefully managing their Double-or-Nothing's to only successful attempts! Pickles on a Plate won second and the Dog Whisperers took third. One Left in the Chamber was narrowly squeezed out of the winner's circle by a mere point but had lots of fun anyway. Deadly Alliance, normally a bastion of calm and logical playing, apparently got infected by gambling devils, recklessly failing on three consecutive DoN's! Oh, the humanity!
We had a General Knowledge question about Djokovic's fourth straight win at Wimbeldon, which led Quiz Master Lou to quip about Wimbeldon winner Angus Podgorney's lengthy victory (it took him 15 years) at same after defeating the interstellar Blancmanges from the planet Skyron in the galaxy of Andromeda! But no one got my reference...
Hats off to our quiz writers who stumped and stymied stylishly with a scalp scratching Find-the-Connection followed by an equally enticing Handout Round about the collapse of civilizations! Way to go, Quiz Overlords!

SLAM! BANG! POW! No, this isn't an episode of 1966's Batman. It's the mental onomatopeia that went off at Shakertin's when the weekly King Trivia quiz teams clashed last night! Five teams Doubled down in the first round with four successes!
After the four way tie in round one, Pickles on a Plate took the lead and never let it go, finishing first with a twelve point lead! Then... Drama! Deadly Alliance tied for second with the Dog Whisperers and the tie breaker created even more drama. At first, DW was awarded the coveted second place, but after a dispute and a quick internet search, the correct answer was discovered and the prize flipped over to DA! BAM! POW! OUCH!
The Nitty Knockers (playing as Ship It! by special permission) missed the winner's circle by two points. Jarvis marvelously reappeared after a year's absence and mysteriously disappeared after round two. And, after a botched DoN in round one, One Left in the Chamber became One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by pacing the pack and keeping the entire bar amused with ebullient charm.
Style points were awarded for misidentifying the extraterrestrial Paul (from the same named film) as Erik, Dave and "The Resident Alien".
