“Hide not your Talents, they for use were made. What’s a Sun-Dial in the shade!” -- Benjamin Franklin
Well there were certainly no shady sundials this week at the Brewyard Beer House in Burbank, and ol' Ben would have been rightly impressed by the performances of our top teams. Let's begin with a robust round of kudos for Bishop Sycamore Alumni, who harnessed the formidable power of several well executed double-or-nothing gambits to build an insurmountable lead and win the night! "Woot! I say," quoting Franklin yet again! "And furthermore, I'll add a second Woot!!"
That Ben Franklin! He's outta control!
Did we describe the Alumni's lead as "insurmountable?" Well I suppose that's true. But just barely. BIG MOUTH BILLY BASS very nearly caught 'em in the end, finishing just two slim points behind to take second. And then there's the Perfect Strangers, who finished just one slim single point shy of the Big Mouths to take third.
But WAIT! There's MORE!! Princess Amy's Flying Monkeys (they're gonna get YOU and your little dog, too!) finished in fourth place when they failed to find that elusive single point that would have put them in a tiebreaker with the Strangers. Perhaps if the bewitching Amy had contributed more. But no, she was too busy pondering her sister's red shoes!
Yup, you read that right. Our top four teams finished a total of just five points apart! Now THAT is some upper level trivia competition right there!! Or, as our friend Ben memorable said: "He who cometh to engage in trivia battle at the Brewyard hath besteth bringeth their 'A' game!"
(It's all right there in Poor RIchard's Almanac. You could look it up!)
Q: What do you call a man with a rubber toe?
A: Roberto!!
Okay, it's funnier to hear it than it is to read it! Sound it out in your head. Funny, right!? And it's top-drawer humor such as this that you'll encounter every week at a King Trivia Live Quiz, like the weekly gathering that took place Wednesday evening at the beautiful Brewyard Beer Company in Burbank.
Nine hearty teams met to match wits and trivia knowledge at the Brewyard this week, with the formidable trio of Matt, David and Princess Amy (she's not a real princess; she makes us call her that) - aka "Adam Schiff's Creek" - taking top honors with a hefty score of 73.
Tight on their heels were the Bishop Sycamore Alumni, who fought hard, finished to place with 63, and left without their prize vouchers! Not to worry, though. Those vouchers will be yours the next time we meet - which could be as soon as next week. Up to you, Alumni crew!
And the show ponies of the night were the Clown Babies, who got edged out by just a single point when they finished with 62! Honorable mention goes to our new friends in I Don't Recall, whose excellent 53 point score might have been good enough for the win on another night.
The Brewyard is magnificent on these balmy late summer evenings. The beer is delicious, the weather sublime, and there's plenty of room for you and your friends! Well, not plenty of room. But we could comfortably fit a few more teams. So come on over and show us whatcha got. We'll be back next week. See ya then.
"Park in the Galleria; Walk to the Americana" is not only good, sound, money-saving advice. It's also the name of our winning team this week at the Brewyard Beer Company in Burbank.
Yupper duppers! We had us some intense trivia action last night at the Brewyard, with a nail-biting finish that resulted in the slimmest of one-point differences separating out top three finishers! The aforementioned Galleria Parkers (photo #2 above) squeaked out a one-point win over BIG MOUTH BILLY BASS. who had a squeak of their own, garnering 2nd place by edging out Clefable's Table by - you guessed it - one point!
What a grand night of heated trivia action! And what a great place to engage in this friendly competition!! If you haven't checked out the Brewyard yet, well, let's just say you're missing out an an equisite venue. Ample seating both indoors and out allows for safe social distancing. Great beer and a rotating gallery of top notch food trucks supply the much needed sustenance, and King Trivia provides the opportunity to test your trivia acumen.
We'll be back next week, and every Wednesday night at 7pm. Hope to see ya soon. But remember, if you park at the galleria, you're too far away! See ya next week.
