What a great night! We had over 100 people play trivia tonight and it was packed. We had lots of trivia veterans doubling down and many were successful throughout the rounds. Players had a great time with each of the rounds, but definitely the best round was round 4 where players had to guess what place the clues were leading to. At the 6 point clue, almost all the teams got the correct answer. The clue that gave it away for most was that this place educated 27 UK prime ministers and many heads of state and government around the world. The answer is... University of Oxford! Great job everyone!!

So many July Birthdays! This week two different teams were celebrating birthdays by playing trivia: Los Cracks and Where's the Whisky! What makes these birthdays even cooler is that they are on the same day as Harry Potter! As quizmaster I was eager to celebrate all three birthdays and found myself cheering for the birthday teams. Los Cracks played a great game, but weren't able to snag a seat in the top three, but Where's the Whisky did. Not only did they place in the top three, but they got first place! In second place this week was Jenny's Block, who amazed me by giving their second place prize to Where's the Whisky as a birthday gift. It was so heartwarming! That gesture was more magical to me than all of the Harry Potter books (even if it was his birthday)! In third place this week was the Mild Stallions, who played a great game and ended one point behind Jenny's Block. Thank you all for not only your trivia skill, but also for your compassion and kindness, especial this week as we celebrated three very important birthdays!

This week at trivia I was inspired by a young boy named Hayden. Midway through the night, amidst the intense competition that is always present at Brouwerji West, I made an announcement that King Trivia is now hiring new quizmasters. Hayden, who is probably no more than 12 years old, came up to me after the announcement and eagerly asked if he could be a quizmaster. I didn't have the heart to tell him no directly, so I offered him a chance to try announcing one question over the mic. He did such a great job and had so much fun that it made me realize how lucky I am to do what I do. Maybe Hayden was an inspiration to the teams competing too because I have never seen so many successful double or nothings as this week. In the end Pacific Coast Dog did the most double or nothings and stole the victory. Their turning point was appropriately a round all about dogs! In second place this week was Hey You, Beer Me who won a tie breaker for second, and in third was Where's the Whisky, who lost the tie breaker. No doubt, the competition was thrilling, but my real takeaway from this week was the amazing community that trivia can create, and the joy it brings to people like Hayden.
